The goal of this WebQuest is to have you become experts on a certain topic that relates to To Kill A Mockingbird. The topics are: About the Author, The Scottsboro Boys, Jim Crow Laws, The Great Depression, and Contemporary Racial and Economic Justice Issues. Each of you will learn about one of these areas by reading through the websites provided, answering questions, and by completing a jigsaw activity with the knowledge you gain.
Steps:
Steps:
- Each student will receive a number 1-5. This number corresponds to the group the student is in. Each group covers an area to be investigated: Group 1: About the Author, Group 2: The Scottsboro Boys, Group 3: Jim Crow Laws, Group 4: The Great Depression, Group 5: Contemporary Racial and Economic Justice Issues.
- Once assigned a number, each student will click on his or her group number and independently read through the websites and answer the questions provided.
- After students have completed their research, each group will get together to discuss what was learned from the web sources and share each member's interpretation and analysis of the questions. With this information, each group will prepare a presentation on their topic to share with other classmates.
- Once groups have a chance to meet and prepare their presentation, students will jigsaw the information. This means that new groups will be formed that have at least one student from each group. Within these groups, students will teach their classmates about their topic of expertise.
